For example; if you are selling a “widget”, click here to go to google, type in “widget”… Last time I looked, it was 24 million pages with the word “Widget”. Even if your site is on page 4 of the Search Engine Results Page (SERP), most people will never see you.
The idea is to find your niche and market it. To illustrate that point, I have another website called Wargame-Terrain.com. It is mostly an informational site that has google ads, tips and tools on building terrain for tabletop war games.
Is it a Niche? You bet it is!
go back to google here and type in “wargame-terrain”. At the time of this writing, I was number one and number two out of 60,000 pages with that keyword. My goal is of course to be number one, but as long as I am on page one or page two of the SERP, I am happy!
